Started this whole thing back in 2012 with nothing but a dream and a beat-up '68 Camaro that wouldn't quit on me. That car taught me more than any textbook ever could - patience, precision, and the kinda respect you gotta have for machines that were built to last.
I'd been wrenching since I was 16, learning from my old man in his garage. He always said "If you're gonna do something, do it right or don't do it at all." That stuck with me through community college auto courses, years working at dealerships where speed mattered more than quality, and finally deciding I'd had enough of cutting corners.
Halcyn Forge wasn't supposed to be some fancy operation. I rented this industrial space on the east side, bought used equipment, and put the word out that I'd take on the jobs other shops wouldn't touch. The resto work, the weird European imports, the performance builds that needed actual attention.
First year was rough, I won't lie. Lots of ramen dinners and sleeping on a cot in the back office. But word spreads fast when you treat people's rides like they're your own. Started getting referrals, then regulars, then folks driving up from Seattle and down from Whistler.
These days we've got a solid crew - four techs who actually give a damn, modern diagnostic equipment that'd make my younger self drool, and a reputation for being the place you go when you want it done right. Still get my hands dirty on every major job though. Can't help it.
We're not the cheapest shop in Vancouver, and we're definitely not the fastest. But if you want someone who'll treat your classic like the rolling piece of history it is, or squeeze every bit of performance outta your daily driver without compromising reliability - yeah, we're your people.
The crew that keeps it all running - from left to right, that's Mike, Sarah, yours truly, and Tommy
Look, the auto repair industry's got a reputation problem. We get it. That's exactly why we do things different around here.
No upselling crap you don't need. If your car's got an issue, we'll show you exactly what's wrong - take photos, explain it in plain English, not mechanic-speak. Sometimes the fix is simple and cheap. Sometimes it ain't. Either way, you'll know before we touch anything.
Yeah, we might take an extra day or two compared to the quick-lube places. That's 'cause we're actually checking stuff, torquing bolts to spec, and making sure everything's buttoned up proper. Rush jobs lead to comebacks, and nobody's got time for that.
We source OEM or better. Sometimes aftermarket stuff's actually superior to factory - especially for performance work. But we're not throwing cheap knockoffs on your ride just to pad our margins. If a part's gonna fail in six months, we won't install it.
Whether it's a '71 Mustang or a 2024 Civic, we treat every vehicle like it matters. 'Cause it does - to you. Your car's not just transportation, it's your freedom, your livelihood, sometimes your passion project. We get that on a personal level.
Cars change fast these days. Electric vehicles, hybrid systems, computers everywhere. We invest in training, new equipment, and staying current with tech. But we also haven't forgotten how to set points on a distributor or rebuild a carburetor. Best of both worlds.
We sponsor local car shows, help out with high school shop programs, and try to give back where we can. Vancouver's been good to us, and we don't forget that. Plus, the car community here's amazing - some of the coolest builds and most passionate enthusiasts you'll find anywhere.
To forge lasting relationships through honest work, exceptional craftsmanship, and genuine care for every vehicle that rolls through our doors. We're not here to be the biggest shop in Vancouver - just the one folks can actually trust.
